In this two minute video, Kristal Peters, MIT alumna 2010, talks about her professional commitment to Haiti and the source of her inspiration.
Over the past five months, Kristal Peters not only finished her masters degree, wrote her thesis, and graduated. She also played a lead role on the Haiti Coordinating Committee, advocating for MIT’s and DUSP‘s meaningful engagement in Haiti’s reconstruction.
In February, Kristal organized a series of events to build awareness around the earthquake and rebuilding efforts. In March, she traveled to Port Au Prince with Professor Phil Thompson and a team of researchers to do field work. At the end of this trip, she helped draft a housing reconstruction framework for the Presidential Commission for Reconstruction. Later, in April, Kristal helped organize a speaking engagement at MIT for Haitian Minister Patrick DeLaTour and former Minister Franz Varela.
This summer, Kristal and current student Anya Brickman Raredon are working with Global Green Hub Program Director, Becky Buell, to further develop housing and community development policies in Haiti. CoLab appreciates their continued engagement.
