Join us on Friday, November 21st from 12 to 2pm EST for a google hangout focused on Banco Palmas, the first community run-bank in Brazil.
The hangout will feature Ansier Ansorena, Director of the PalmasLab, BancoPalmas’ laboratory for innovation and research. Primarily targeted at participants in our Community Innovation School for leaders from the Colombian Pacific, the google hangout will take place in Spanish.
BancoPalmas was created by the residents association of Palmeiras, a peripheral urban neighborhood in Fortaleza Brazil in 1998, to promote financial inclusion and economic solidarity. Learn more about this case of community innovation and economic democracy in this excerpt from Lily Steponaitis’ thesis, “Too Legit to Quit:Exploring Concepts of Legitimacy and Power in Scaling-Up Community Development Work.”
Update: Post updates to reflect that conversation happened only in English via google hangout.
