Feeling at Home on Halloween in Echo Park, Los Angeles

The “Make Yourself at Home” sofa from New Orleans found its home on the prominent corner of Sunset Avenue and Logan Avenue in Echo Park.  Echo Park is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Los Angeles. Well known as a historically Latino neighborhood, in recent years it has slowly started to gentrify.  On Sunset and Logan, the windows of the now vacant Pescado Mojado restaurant have started to attract graffiti in the past few weeks.  Its Sunset-facing wall was just calling for a street chair.

As a wheatpasting newbie, my first attempt failed, and the poster started to peel off the wall.  I returned again on Halloween night to do the job right.  Trick-or-treaters turned their heads to find out what was going on.

This post is part of the International Street Chair Pop-Up Show.

I have never been to Echo Park before, but this video really captures the sights and sounds of the neighborhood so well that I feel like I have visited! Awesome job with the wheat-pasting.
