Off of Michigan Avenue, near the famous Michigan Central Train Station, the Old Timer Chairs hang where a new art and community space is growing. I remembered how much easier it is to install art when there are two sets of hands! It was a windy day, and the wind whipped the chair making it an unruly piece.
The area is known as Corktown, and Michigan Avenue’s four lanes divide one side of the street from the next. Corktown is a thriving area with coffee shops, pubs and a few places to eat.
In the process of scoping out where to put the chair, I found this abandoned sitting space – a great combination of elegance and modernity.
This piece was five feet away from the poster installation; art fills Detroit’s streets, the chair photo being one more piece.
And this was around the corner.
